Being Monkey #99

Consider this—
Your story was written
before your birth, and yet
we humans on this earth
take it personally when the script
calls for being other than
who we think we are. Chanting
purpose, mission and values we’re
asked to promise consistency
To hope for the hopeless, to imagine
that our acts and actions will put
a dent in the sand.
Does it ever seem that this
living by your word is an
unreasonable request?
Never knowing how
the plot ends, win or lose? As if
knowing makes a difference,
still—we could all be monkeys
washing yams on an island beach—
Just choose.
