Dear Julie I’m

leaning over backwards against
a cool deck rail in the autumn
night. moon cresting on the east
through uninterrupted trees I
wonder looking at stars
spotting a deep blue vastness
where are you? with Joni strumming
and humming, where are you now?

I have a dog and a family and you
have deep space with no body
must be nice to navigate the universe
or
are you caught in some Catholic crime
you committed not having said good-bye
or why?

just disappearing like that
the airy clouds reflect light and life
the cicadas are convinced by their song
why weren’t you?
