Last Request

When you are free
come visit me

on ponderosa scented wings
with lupine flowers in your hair

on wings and flowers
and a wind both warm and strong.

Come visit me
when you are free

from tireless pain and muscles weak
sad sorrow in your blood and bones

cast off this fate to
come alone without a care.

And though I’ll never see your smile
your eyes your skin and radiant hair

I’ll never hear your voice again
or laugh with you

I’ll know you’re here, I’ll know you’re
here in iridescent spirit soft.

Light as the touch you had in life,
body gone and free to roam

the universe with God
beyond, but wait…

do not escape our common
bond of time and place

To ease into Eternity until, my friend,
you come to me when you are free.
