Unspoken complicity,
a thickening of air between two bodies
talk of trees and rocks, and books
Cautious not to disturb the automatic evolution,
the natural progression from meeting to parting
Nothing attaches itself permanently, not the trees
that grow along the shore, nor the rocks
hugging the narrow bank, nor algae scumming rocks
Waves lick the edge, tasting the land,
then return to the deepness—
out and back, no clinging here
So it is with you and me,
We’re creatures of similarity,
bodies of water packaged in the same species. It’s
only natural that we progress
ebbing and flowing with moon’s pull
And when memory thickens between us,
sticking like unnecessary paste, disrupting evolution—
one will fall away automatically
There’s nothing wrong here
Trees release and fall,
lake speaks, rocks listen
